CBD has moved into the mainstream, and with that growth come important questions. I love that my customers at Rustic Oils are so inquisitive—when it comes to your health, there are absolutely no "dumb" questions!
Here are the answers to the top 10 questions I receive every day to help you feel confident in your wellness journey.
1. What is the difference between Hemp and Marijuana?
While both belong to the Cannabis plant species, they are distinct in their genetics and cultivation. Hemp is grown for versatile uses like fiber, food, and CBD, and it contains very low levels of THC (0.3% or less), meaning it has no intoxicating properties. Marijuana, conversely, is specifically cultivated for high levels of THC, which can exceed 20%.
2. Is CBD legal?
In December 2018, hemp was made federally legal in the U.S.. While it is legal in some form in all 50 states, local regulations can vary. I always recommend checking with your local government to stay informed on specific regional rules.
3. What is CBD, and what does it stand for?
CBD stands for Cannabidiol. It is a therapeutic, non-intoxicating compound found in the cannabis plant that interacts with the cannabinoid receptors in your body’s own Endocannabinoid System.
4. How are CBD extracts made?
There are several methods, but at Rustic Oils, we prioritize quality. Brands like Hemp Dropz, Canna Hemp, AliceCBD, and Courtney’s Farm Charm Soap Company use CO2 extraction, which is a clean, non-flammable process to obtain the plant's beneficial compounds.
5. Will I get "high" from CBD?
No. CBD derived from hemp is non-intoxicating and will not impair you. Because it contains less than 0.3% THC, it is not psychoactive.
6. Will CBD cause me to fail a drug test?
We carry many THC-free options, and all our other products contain less than 0.3% THC. However, because every body processes compounds differently, the safest route if you are concerned is to choose zero-THC products or consult with your doctor or employer.
7. What is the difference between Isolate, Broad Spectrum, and Full Spectrum?
-
CBD Isolate: 99% pure CBD.
-
Broad Spectrum: Contains CBD and other cannabinoids, but with the THC removed.
-
Full Spectrum: A full plant extract containing all the cannabinoids found in the plant.
8. How do I know I’m getting a quality product?
This is the most important question of all. Always ask to see lab reports. A reputable company will provide third-party testing that details CBD %, THC %, and checks for heavy metals or residual solvents. Cheap products often lack the CBD they claim to have—or worse, contain harmful ingredients. When it comes to your health, you truly get what you pay for.
9. Does CBD have side effects?
CBD is widely recognized as safe, but it is always best practice to check with your doctor before adding any new supplement to your daily routine, especially if you are on other medications.
10. How is CBD taken?
There are many effective methods depending on your needs:
-
Tinctures: Held under the tongue for rapid absorption.
-
Water Soluble: Designed for higher bioavailability since our bodies are mostly water.
-
Pastes: Highly concentrated; these can be used orally or topically.
-
Edibles: Gummies act as a "time-release" method as they digest.
-
Topicals (Creams/Salves): Excellent for localized pain or skin conditions.
-
Vape: The fastest-absorbing method, often used for immediate anxiety relief.
-
Bath & Body: A wonderful way to soak away inflammation and muscle soreness.
-
Pet Products: We carry specialized oils and treats to help our furry friends with issues like anxiety or joint support.
A Note on Finding Your "Sweet Spot"
CBD works on a bell curve. My best advice? Start "low and slow." Gradually increase your dose until you find the amount that works for your body, and then stay consistent.
